Pillars of Faith

Real Name: Basara Kubikiri
Nova Name: Hanshi Kokuei

Hanshi Kokuei
Basara came to America under rather inauspicious circumstances.  He had just wed his highschool sweetheart and was starting his job as a martial arts instructor when he found out that the school that had hired him to teach bored businessmen how to fight was really owned by criminal concerns.  Basara refused to allow drugs to be sold in his classroom and was eliminated as a result.  He along with his wife were ambushed in front of a restaurant and taken to a deserted pier.  Chained to heavy wieghts they waited for the 'boss' to arrive.  He appeared and gave Basara one last chance to get with the program.  Basara reluctantly agreed, but the oyabun had a good look at Basara's wife and his lust was inflamed.  Basara launched himself at the lecherous criminal and a gunfight ensued.  Chained and riddled with bullets Basara erupted and disappeared beneath the water.  Thinking that his wife was dead Basara went on a rampage of murder killing as many gangsters as he could before finally government sponsored Novas made him flee for China.  In Hong Kong he met the Chinese Nova resistance league and gained their help in escaping the Japanese Novas.  However the Chinese government Novas were even more powerful and rutheless.  In one final desperate moment he Teleported to Chicago before he was overun by the Chinese military.
In Chicago Basara has become something of an urban hero.  Early encounters with gangs gave him a reputation as being undead since no matter how many times he was shot and left for dead bleeding on the pavement he always got up.  Early encounters with other Novas weren't nearly as stellar.  But slowly and surely he's gotten stronger and more powerfull.  Today he is considered a world class Nova and has merited the attention of Ceastus Pax and has stood up to the likes of Shaitan.
Roleplaying Notes:  Of course, no one calls him by his Nova name, the one that NSI came up for him.  He's a rebel without any cause or justification.  Sometimes he challenges authority just to see how hard he'll get beat down.  He really does think that he can't die.
