Pillars of Faith

Nova Name: Caestus Pax

Real Name: Shelby Eisenfaust
Eruption: Threatening Situation
Nature: Leader
Alleigance: Project Utopia, Team Tomorrow Central
Concept: Team Center

Background:

Caestus Pax is one of the first novas to rally behind Project Utpopia's banner and has been a staunch supporter of the organization ever since.  Among the Team Tommorrow leaders he is first among equals and for quite some time he was recognized as the most powerful nova on the planet.  The first indications that he wasn't alone at the top came when his office got hold of a tape filmed at the Alamedos nuclear testing site in the Arizona dessert.  In it a young nova by the name of Battousai used his body to cover a teammate from a megaton nuclear missile strike.  The most impressive piece of data recovered from the incident wasn't merely that Battousai had survived the equivalent of 200 million tons of dynamite, it was that despite his serious injuries his teammate escaped unharmed.  The decision was made to hustle Battousai through basic training and make him a member of Team Tommorrow Central as fast as possible.  To that end Caestus Pax went to handle his recruitment personally.  Their personalities clashed initially, Pax was always loud and overbearing, but soon Battousai wore him down.  His refusal to let Pax bait him or make him lose his temper really jarred Pax.  Battousai also refused to let Pax overawe him and that was as much a part of it as anything else.  After a while Pax came to realize that there were some things that the two of them could do together that far exceeded what he could accomplish on his own.  Soon they had developed a strange friendship centered around a friendly rivalry where they each try to do better than the other while at the same time claiming that the other guy is just being a showoff.
Today his friendship with Battousai has taken the edge off his arrogance, but he still accepts only the best from people and let's his displeasure be known.  Of course he doesn't shout at people anymore.  Battousai's example has made him aware that people respond more carefully to a quiet tone than to shouts that just make the ranter look ridiculous.  He recently convinced Battousai to form his own branch of Team Tommorrow.  T2M Middle East.  With headquarters in the troubled Kashmir region, but with responsibility for much of the areas where Project Utopia is least wanted.  They may be separated by their different duties now but if there's alien invasions, 120 meter radioactive lizards or robot armies to put down, they usually manage to be there fighting the fight no one else could even hope to win.
I should also mention that at the end of my campaign Caestus Pax and Battousai were thrown into the mix at Bahrain.  When Divis Mal made his infamous appearance they were in the middle of battling Shaitan.  The three soon realized the futility of fighting a three way battle and teamed up to deal with Divis Mal.  Shaitan ran interference, blocking Mal's overpowering attacks while Caestus Pax whittled him down with sheer brute force.  That left Battousai the perfect opportunity to deliver the killing blow which he might not have done had Madine not insisted he take Mal down.
Roleplaying Notes:
Caestus Pax is arrogance personified.  But he also has a vulnerable side.  He needs the approval of his peers almost as much as he needs the adulation of the masses.
