Real Name: Glenn Jacobs
Eruption: Accident
Nature: Architect
Alleigance: XWF
Concept: Big Red Machine
Background: Jacobs was always big for his age, a tall and lanky basketball scholarship student at Northeast Missouri State, where he earned a degree in English. His father was in the Air Force, so Jacobs and his siblings moved around a lot. He was born in Madrid, Spain, but grew up near St. Louis, Mo., where he later worked at a group home for mentally challenged adults. A co-worker who wanted to break into professional wrestling persuaded 25 year old Jacobs to give it a try, too. Close to 150 people saw Jacobs lose his first match at a small banquet hall. He continued working at the group home and wrestled on weekends under the name "Doomsday." When his bookings increased, he quit his job and hit the small time wrestling circuit. He learned the ropes at a Florida wrestling school. Jacobs was soon wrestling in Japan, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Nicer in theory than in practice. Jacobs didn't know how much his six month stint with Smoky Mountain Wrestling would change his life. It brought him to Tennessee, where he met Maurisa, who would become his wife. They were introduced by WWF wrestler DLo Brown. Jacobs also gained a contact: Jim Cornette, who took him to the World Wrestling Federation in August 1995. With Smoky Mountain, he assumed the name "The Unibomb" and wrestled with Allen Sarves, better known as the WWF's Al Snow. Cornette's eye for talent took Jacobs and Sarves to WWF and stardom. Jacobs began his WWF career as wrestling dentist "Isaac Yankkum," but the powers that be realized fans weren't crazy about dental visits. They soon came up with a new gimmick for Jacobs, one which would see him to international stardom. The concept: Kane would be introduced as the brother of the evil Undertaker. Half man, half monster, he unexpectedly survived a house fire started by the Undertaker in which their parents were killed. To the Undertaker's chagrin, Kane survived but was scarred (thus the mask), unable to talk, and thirsty for revenge. The character would pop up and thwart the Undertaker's evil deeds within the ring. Since his introduction, Kane has faced other challengers and even taken the championship belt from fan favorite "Stone Cold" Steve Austin for one day. The real measure, though, has to do with action outside the ring. Kane had the ability to draw a crowd and enjoyed great marketing success. His appearance harkens to the superheroes of comic books and is very popular with children. Kane can be linked to the rise in popularity of masked novas in the US. So nobody except Jacobs was suprised when he erupted on the twilight of pro wrestling.
On Monday March 24, 1999 the wrestler known as Kane was involved in a Burned Alive match. Next tuesday he was scheduled for a dentist appointment and on wendsday a live interview. The added pressure saw him erupt in front of a crowd of millions on live TV when his boot was thrown in the fire by Mark Calloway a wrestler working under the name of the Undertaker. Jacobs was so worried that the piece look good that the flames flared up to ten feet responding to his nova power to control flames. No one was hurt and Jacobs managed to ignore the pain shooting through his temple long enough to finish the angle and make his way backstage. The XWF had yet to be formed and Utopia's quick intervention kept Kane out of the squared circle for the better part of a year. Even afterwards the feeling was that a nova was too big to be involved in wrestling. Still under contract to the WWF he promoted himself in independant venues and did lots of charity work during the transition period between the WWF under Vince McMahon to the XWF owned by B.B. Bartlett. The transition from wrestling to shootfighting wasn't easy for Jacobs but Kane was too big for small venues and it was obvious that he was taking it easy on his baseline wrestling partners. So with some trepidation he entered the shootfighting leagues and gained a reputation for being able to take any punishment and still be able to perform. He's also known as being the best able to perform with a jobber. He headlines most of the House shows for his ability to take punishment to make a jobber look good.
Roleplaying Notes: Jacobs is an easy going fellow who has over 11 years of experience at keeping his in ring persona separate from his every day life. Since erupting very little has changed for Jacobs, he still works live and taped shows 200+ days a year. He still goes home to his wife and stepdaughters on his days off. But for Kane everything has changed. The action is on a higher level. The attention of the entire world is on him from the moment he walks through the curtains. The character of Kane was ready made for life as a Nova. He feels no pain, he is incredibly resistant to injury, can heal from almost any wound in a matter of days and has the strength of a monster. His in ring persona is a sharp contrast to his real self and many people wouldn't recognize him outside of his red costume even with the bulging muscles and glowing eyes. However he spends most of his free time dormed down making the distinction all that more jarring. Outside the ring he's a loving husband and father and he's active in several charities.
