Tetsu-Ro

Real Name: Makei Unnai

Unnai was an Otaku before his eruption, he was the ultimate fan boy, and his obsession was mecha. Giant Robots filled his imagination at least seven hours a day. When 1999 rolled around he had a job as a stage hand at a major Hong Kong film studio. They did minor work in live action giant robot films and series. Most of which got sold to Saban entertainment. During one such filming a mechanical hand meant to hold one of the heroines slipped it's moorings. Unnai was close by and he erupted. Suddenly the hand released the actress and tossed her into a nearby group of people. The hand broke on impact and everyone agrees that she would have died if not for Unnai's intervention.
In the week and months that followed Unnai was called upon to animate everything from miniature robots to mechanical dummies made to look like aliens, famous people and animals. Unnai could impart upon the devices a life and range of motion unequaled by even the most advanced robotics. During this period his power continued to grow, some would say faster than was reasonable. Now that he had some degree of fame and respect among the special effects people he took a leave of absence to embark on an even more ambitious project. He set out to create his own Mecha.
His first attempt started with a decomissioned Soviet tank, a relic of the cold war. During the long and arduous process he developed his powers to even greater levels. Some of the components of his giant robot are unique and irreplacable. Especially the power source and the support struts. The thirty foot tall robot could easily support five times it's weight and provide enough energy to illuminate China for a month.
After he had his Mech he went from behind the scenes magic man to on screen super star. Several organizations and countries were interested in his accomplishment but ardor quickly cooled when it became apparent that the robot could not be duplicated and that no one but Unnai could pilot it. Project Utopia gave the robot its official OK since it didn't represent a reproducible technology that could be sold for military purposes.
Unnai became a media darling. He built the suit with a modular exoskeleton so that it could be replaced as often as needed to take on different 'personae' for different robotic roles. As the newly christened Tetsu-Ro he won many MTV movie awards and even an Academy award for best special effects in a movie in 2002. Many agreed that he had not only become a great box office draw for his real life action scenes unequaled by any in the industry, but that he had become an outstanding actor as well. He inspired people when he was on screen.
However everything wasn't perfect for Unnai, his single minded obsession with his Mech had cost him in other areas. He couldn't maintain a stable relationship. His appearance had become decidedly weird and when he wasn't acting the part of Tetsu-Ro baselines found him disturbing and avoided contact with him. He also found that while Animating Tetsu-Ro became increasingly easy he was reaching the point were he couldn't Animate anything else. Not even a toothpick. This is when things started to spiral out of control. He had an accident one day on the set and four stunt men died.
Instead of waiting for an investigation that would have most likely cleared him he ran. He went to ground convinced that they would take Tetsu-Ro away from him and that he would never be able to pilot the giant robot again. He ran straight into the arms of the Heaven Thunder Triad. They took him in gave him money, position and bribed a few officials so that when he was tried in absentia, he was found guilty of four charges of manslaughter. Tetsu-Ro joined the Triads in 2007, so although he is among the most powerful if not the most powerful Nova on their payroll, he isn't the highest ranking.
More recently he came to Chicago along with another Chinese Nova, Aimiki Shen. During an extended leave of the local Novas the Triads and the Mafia had decided to duke it out for control of the strategic city of Chicago. When the Novas returned the chinese Novas drew up plans for eliminating them before dedicating their energies to expelling the Mafia Novas. A few things happened that ruined those plans however. First Victory Angel started talking to kids and getting them back in school and off drugs. In a few days her speaking abilities and Mega Social skills virtually eliminated street gangs and a whole base of drug consumers. The kids were going to school and getting into rehab of their own free will. In the first day alone over 600 hand guns were turned in to the police. This left both the Mafia and the Triads without a consumer base, their preferred pushers and foot soldiers. The Mafia partially withdrew their operations expecting a few lean years, whereas the Chinese withdrew to Chinatown where through intimidation and pressure they could still distribute their drugs.
Secondly the Project Utopia Novas found out about the situation in Chinatown and decided to put a stop to it in the most direct manner possible. They walked straight into an ambush. Tetsu-Ro and Aimiki were waiting for them and caught them completely off guard. Tetsu-Ro and Aimiki expected a quick victory but they hadn't counted on Battousai being able to sense the danger before hand with his Intuition, nor did they count on Victory Angel being so tough. Early in the battle it became apparent that Tetsu-Ro was the dangerous one. Aimiki despite her power could do very little except hinder and inconvenience the Utopians. But Tetsu-Ro managed to land a solid blow on Battousai which nearly incapacitated him. Victory Angel fearing for Battousai's life transformed into War Angel. Tetsu-Ro was broken in half by her attack and Unnai suffered damage as he was thrown clear of the wreckage. Aimiki realized the better part of valor and hightailed it out of there faster than a speeding road runner.
This defeat seriously shook Unnai's confidence. He had never really taken to the life of a criminal and he had become very introverted when he wasn't piloting Tetsu-Ro. The destruction of Tetsu-Ro nearly crushed him. He retreated to China to lick his wounds and stew in his own self pity. But he couldn't stay still for long. He had to have Tetsu-Ro back even if it cost him his life.
The second Mech he set out to build got it's basic construction materials from a World War II battleship. This time his Mech would be a military construction from the start. The second Tetsu-Ro is 80 feet tall (27 meters), sports 6 inch laminated battleship armor and has an array of offensive weaponry lacking in the first Tetsu-Ro. He has included in the robot two 18 inch guns with an autoloader that can cycle between explosive anti-emplacement shells and fragmenting anti-aircraft shells. Two 105mm cannons are incorporated into the right arm and a host of ECM equipment fresh off the Black market has been used to make Tetsu-Ro proof against helicopter attacks. Unnai also constructed for Tetsu-Ro a giant shield and a sword. The sword is fifty feet long (17 meters) from hilt to tip and weighs over 40 tons. The shield has two built in missle launchers armed with Surface to Air missles. The outer shell of the robot is still modular but only to facilitate armor repair. In combat he uses his Matter Creation and Shape Alteration to affect temporary repairs on Tetsu-Ro. The extent of damage may vary but in general two to three successes are sufficient to restore one Health Level of vehicular damage. Unnai can also use his Matter Creation power to create temporary gadgets to achieve various effects. Examples could range from particle Beam hand guns to Rocket Thruster belts. The more impossible and out of this world the item is, the more likely he will be to try and create it, even when a mundane item could serve the same function.
Unnai is just waiting for his opportunity to get back at War Angel for destroying his first Mech. He's started to refer to himself in the third person while piloting Tetsu-Ro, a sure sign that Megalomania is just around the corner.
