Darksun Campaign

One of my longest running campaigns was a Darksun setting campaign in which the heroes from the book were all slaughtered by Borys three months after they killed the Sorcerer King of Tyr.  In a nod to the "World Domination to-do List" he didn't consider tham beneath his notice, he didn't toy with them or try to "test" them to see if they were worthy of his full might, he just killed them in the most expedient manner possible.  Using magic and from a considerable distance.  After that he installed another Sorcerer King in Tyr and the stage was set for a very memorable campaign.  All the Characters on the PC's page that are from Athas belong to this campaign.

Armors of Athas

Athas has a variety of armors that are different from the norm.  I drew the most original ones and converted them to vector in Fhreehand and then back to gif here.

Martial Arts of Athas

These are Martial Arts Styles done in the same vein as those in the Ninja's Handbook.  The only difference is that they have been modified and made deadlier to reflect the harsh nature of Athas.  These Martial Arts are especially suitable for Gladiators and wandering Psionicists.

These are the Elemental Planes from an Athasian Cosmology.

Manscorpion Gladiator

Manscorpion Gladiator

This little number was part of a general Gladiatorial tournament that capped off the first year of my Darksun Campaign.  Among the contestants was a Thri-Kreen Gladiator, a Half Giant Psionicist, a Ninja Gladiator, a Sensei Master, A Tan'Ari Balor as well as an ancient Stone god (Trapped on Athas from the legendary age and cut off from the outer planes.) and a misplaced superhero from Heroes Unlimited.  Three of the PCs also participated and got quite far.  The winner was a human Gladiator who was the father of one of the PCs.  I actually forgot what the prize was or why it was so important that the most undeniably powerful fighters of the Tyr region assembled from all the City States to fight for it.

Krup

Krup
This is Krup.  Say hello Krup.  He can't talk...  He was the best Thri-Kreen Gladiator in all of Athas.  Yep.  Had 17 attacks per turn.  His THAC0 was -12 and with a strength of 25 his total damage modifier was +30.  So it wasn't so much of a problem that he couldn't talk, and as a matter of fact never wanted to talk.  If you ever run across one of my players from that campaign just bring up Krup and watch them roll their eyes and gnash their teeth.

Cirque de Athas

I remember seeing Cirque de Solei one summer and thinking how cool it was.  I made a group of travelling performers that were quite evil and seriously messed with the players.  They never killed anyone but boy did they have the PCs running scared whenever they appeared.  The leader was the half sister of one of the characters, which made it even more evil when they hooked up.  She was a Half-elf who had tatoos that came alive and fought for her.  The mekilot caravan in the drawing below was one of her tatoos.  She also had a variety of fantastic monsters such as chimerae and griffons.  If I remember correctly she was an Illusionist Defiler.  Among her menagerie there was a Jazst Gladiator who used a unique weapon that looked like a shield with a dragon's neck and head.  The horns could hook a limb and rip flesh while the mouth part had a spigot that could spray alcohol into a mist that would be lit by the teeth which were made of flint and stone.  There was a guant Half Giant who was a Psychometabolist and contortionist.  There was a puppeteer who was controlled by his puppet.  The puppet was a Psionic Artifact, its hapless victim was a normal human whose mouth was sewn shut with rawhide.  There was a half-elven acrobat, I forget what character class she belonged to.  An Elf who specialized in Long Bows and had a Composite Bow shaped like a Dragon.  He was a Gladiator Blind Fighter who could shoot his bow without having to see his target.  And a few halfling tumblers.  I wish I could find the page with their stats.
